We didn’t catch any fish but it was nice to do something different. While we were there a guy told us about BOW (Become an Outdoor Woman) and we may do it next year. My sister is real girlie and could use some rugged outdoor activity. The program is 3 days long and you choose what you’ll do each day from a list of outdoor activities (hiking, shooting sports, mountain biking, etc). I think it would be really cool! Well, it’s back to the classroom for me. I have impressionable young minds to mold!

After a triumphant stop in his home state of Illinois with new road buddy Joe Biden, Barack Obama is speaking in Davenport, Iowa this morning at a “One Nation” town hall meeting. While his wife Michelle Obama is making tracks to Denver to speak at the DNC tonight, her husband is wending his way there, stopping in the battleground state of Missouri tomorrow. John McCain is polling 10 points ahead of Obama in the Show Me State, according to last week’s numbers.

The Trocadero Theatre, a 138-year-old, 1,200-person Victorian venue, has gone through many incarnations in its time on Arch Street–hosting vaudeville, burlesque, movies and, since 1996, pop music.

“The Troc” has long been known as a place to discover local Philly bands, but as the surrounding Market East neighborhood has transformed into a more desirable location in recent years, the lineup has leaned towards national acts.

The still-quite-diverse list of upcoming shows includes everyone from dance pop duo Chromeo to Swedish heavy metal act Opeth and Bow Wow as Shad Moss. (Wait, Bow has yet another alternate persona?)

Local hipsters get more excited about low-key weekday activities at the Troc’s smaller balcony space, including free movies on Mondays, along with Guitar Hero contests and $2 beers.

More details are emerging about Indian carrier Kingfisher Airlines, which plans to start flights between Heathrow and India next month. If all goes smoothly, the three-year-old upstart could be landing in San Francisco before the end of 2008.

Billionaire Vijay Mallya runs the show, and he tells the Financial Times:

That Kingfisher is establishing the base for its widebody long-haul operations at the recently opened Bangalore International airport, which with Hyderabad is leading the drive to modernise Indian airport infrastructure in an effort to catch up with the very fast growth of the Indian aviation market.

And though it’s slowing growth on the domestic front, Kingfisher is already exploring a code sharing partnership with the SkyTeam, which counts Air France and Delta among its members.

This week, our Cambodia embed, Tim Patterson, is giving us the inside scoop on the country.

The Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia are perfect habitat for Javan rhinoceroses, Indochinese tigers and Asian elephants. Gibbons sometimes serenade at sunrise and Barking Deer yelp at the edge of the jungle. Siamese crocodiles, once thought extinct, have even been seen in the rivers.

But perhaps the oddest animal of all in this wild bit of Cambodia is the spot-bellied eagle owl. Seriously: It’s a real bird! Of course, when I saw one, I didn’t take a photo to prove I had.
